16:00 - 17:00 Education in the Age of Imagination / The Sony Pictures Imageworks IPAX Program
Raum Tübingen Don Levy, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications, Sony Pictures Imageworks, www.imageworks.com
How do you learn things that don't yet exist? How do you prepare for what you may not even be able to imagine. The velocity of change accelerates with astonishing force, challenging both students, educators and today's workforce. It also presents a remarkable opportunity to rethink how and what we learn. What if instead of training people to do something, we cultivate generations of learners, curious, adaptable individuals with a thirst for knowledge and a hunger for ideas? Imagine the things they could do.

Don Levy, senior vice president of communications at Sony Pictures Digital Productions, has enjoyed a front row seat with the greats of the visual effects industry from the optical era to the digital age. He is a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts and has been on the faculty at Boston University.

IPAX, Imageworks' Professional Academic Excellence program, was founded on the principal that great academic programs should have access to the best professional expertise. IPAX enables faculty and students at leading institutions to learn with animation and visual effects masters and gain invaluable insight through first hand production experience. Ken Maruyama, vice president of recruiting, artists development and animation management at Sony Pictures Imageworks, is the executive in charge of IPAX. He will explore how IPAX has worked with the various schools. how students and faculty have benefited from their association with the program and how students have made their way from student to professional.
