David Morin, Chair, Joint Technology Subcommittee on Virtual Production/ Chair, Autodesk Film CTO Advisory Council

David is chairman of the Virtual Production Committee, a joint effort of six Hollywood-based organizations: the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), the Art Director's Guild (ADG), the Visual Effects Society (VES), the Previsualization Society, the Producers Guild of America (PGA), and the International Cinematographers Guild (ICG). David is also chair of the Autodesk Film CTO Advisory Council, a product focus group of large studio facilities. He is also a past co-chair of the "ASC-ADG-VES Joint Technology Subcommittee on Previsualization", a committee that was instrumental in the creation of the Previsualization Society.

David earned a B.Sc.A. in computer science from Laval University (Quebec City, Canada) in 1982 and followed the "International School of Computer Animation" program (Sheridan College, Ontario) in 1990. In 1991 he joined Softimage, then a start-up, where he participated in the early development of motion capture and 3D software, and later opened the Softimage office in Santa Monica, California. David was Director of Special Projects when Softimage was acquired by Microsoft. Later, when Microsoft sold Softimage to Avid Technology, he became Vice-President of Special Projects and Content Group. In 2000 David joined Manex Entertainment as President of the MVFX division, a visual effects house. Since 2007 David is an independent consultant and currently assists the Media & Entertainment division of Autodesk from his base in Los Angeles, where he chairs industry efforts centered on the analysis of new digital workflows in the motion picture industry.

FMX is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg, the City of Stuttgart and the MFG Film Funding, taking place in cooperation with VES Visual Effects Society, ACM SIGGRAPH and the World Building Institute. FMX is an event by the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, organized by Animationsinstitut, hosting the Animation Production Day (APD), a joint venture with the Festival of Animated Film Stuttgart (ITFS).
