History

FMX was initiated as an event for students labeled "Film and Media Exchange" (FMX) in 1994 and was supposed to take place every two years. As early as 1996 it became an annual event already . When the first FMX took place in 1994, the industry did not even dare to dream about the creative possibilities within computer animation and digital effects that exist today. Throughout the past fifteen years of its existence, FMX kept up with the developments and trends and has grown to become an important networking platform for those working with digital imagery.

"I was astonished by the excitement and capability of the people attending, and was similarly impressed by the people from the industry you brought to present. The local German animation and visual effects companies were wonderful to meet as well."
- Thaddeus Beier, Head of CG, Digital Domain

"FMX is so different from other events: passionate students, projects diversity, dynamic and energy, knowledge sharing and cross subjects." - Christophe Brusseaux, Graphic Director, Quantic Dream

"Thank you for allowing VES and me to be your partners – we think FMX is the best conference in the world and it seems the rest of the world is starting to feel the same way!" - Eric Roth, Executive Director, Visual Effects Society

"Thank you so much for including Paul and myself in the activities! We had a terrific time and left Germany with greater professional understanding, new friendships with colleagues, students and conference attendees and wonderful memories."
- Bob Whitehill, Stereographer, Pixar Animation Studios
