Philip Hunt, Director, Creative Director, Studio AKA

Philip Hunt is Co-Owner & creative Director of STUDIO AKA, a multi-BAFTA winning & Oscar & Emmy nominated independent animation studio & production company based in London. Known internationally for idiosyncratic & innovative work, expressed across an eclectic range of projects in short films, commercials and TV series animation, AKA is close knit team that includes directors, designers, animators, writers, technical artists & producers, we create & consult on projects with a strong emphasis on Story, Design & Character. A graduate of both Central Saint Martin’s & the Royal College of Art in London, Philip has created an eclectic range of commercials & animation projects during his career. His Directing work includes the multi-award winning short film AH POOK IS HERE - an interpretation of recordings by the late William S. Burroughs, and a diverse body of advertising films for studio clients as diverse as BMW, Orange, [RED], Dyson, ONE.org, Kvadrat. Three Mobile & Herman Miller.

Philip also adapted and directed a half hour animated film entitled LOST AND FOUND – based on Oliver Jeffers award winning children's book – which has to date has won 61 International awards including BEST TV SPECIAL 2009 at Annecy, The GRAND PRIZE for Animation at the Rhode Island Int. Film Festival, and a BAFTA for Best Children’s Animation.

Philip has nurtured AKA’s reputation for finding appropriately unique & tailored solutions to creative propositions that see them working closely with some of the best creative agencies in the world, time and again. To that end Philip has been relentless in presenting AKA's work & story at countless festivals & design conferences, including: PICTOPLASMA Berlin / STYLEFRAMES NYC / BROAD.CAT Barcelona / PLAYGROUNDS Tilburg / ONEDOTZERO London / OFFSET Dublin / FMX Stuttgart / THE STORY London / SEMI-PERMANENT Auckland & many more - All part of an ongoing desire to seek out interesting projects & people to work with.

Aside from his role at Studio AKA, and with over 25 years of commercial production experience to share, Philip is a visiting lecturer at the Animation Institute in Stuttgart, teaches story & idea development at the Pictoplasma Academy in Berlin, and is an advisory board member of the NFTS in the UK.

FMX is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg, the City of Stuttgart and the MFG Film Funding, taking place in cooperation with VES Visual Effects Society, ACM SIGGRAPH and the World Building Institute, supported by Animation Media Cluster Region Stuttgart (AMCRS), AMD, AutodeskBackstage, Epic Games and Mackevision. FMX is an event by the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, organized by the Animationsinstitut, hosting the Animation Production Day (APD), a joint venture with the Festival of Animated Film Stuttgart (ITFS).
